Virtual World Definition: Three-Dimensional Virtual Worlds Explained

Looking for a clear virtual world definition? Well, you’ve come to the right place. This article discusses what a virtual world is and provides examples of virtual games. Whether you are looking for games, interactive sources of information or other programs wherein computerized characters represent users, this brief guide to virtual worlds will come in handy.

What is a Virtual World?

Long before virtual world games were created, people looked for fun ways to kill time. Virtual worlds, which refer to three-dimensional realms created through Computer Graphics Imaging (CGI), responded to this need. These games allow users to feel as if they are part of the game through avatars that represent players. Avatars manipulate objects in the virtual world based on the keystrokes and mouse movements of the players.

Other websites that provide a simple virtual world definition also take its sound effects into account. Other programs may offer streaming sounds for listening to the radio, music, or scripts coming from the virtual environment. Most multi-player games also have features for instant messaging and chat, which allow users to speak to each other as they explore a three-dimensional virtual world.

Virtual worlds also have two basic genres – virtual communities and advanced programs designed for gaming. While these two types have similar attributes in terms of their rendering abilities, they are specifically created for distinct purposes. Virtual world games usually feature antagonists that reign the realm, so users have the built-in objective to defeat antagonists. On the other hand, virtual communities allow users to act as they wish.

Famous Virtual Reality Games

Even the simplest virtual world definition won’t be of any use if you don’t know any examples. World of Warcraft and Runescape are two of the most popular games that feature a unique virtual realm. The former was launched as a multi-player online game, and it requires a monthly subscription fee. With over 11.5 million active subscribers, World of Warcraft immediately became one of today’s most dominant virtual worlds.

The Guinness Book of World Records also recognized Runescape as the most popular role-playing game online. It heavily uses three-dimensional animation, so its users have grown to 8.5 million in just a short period. Unlike other virtual world games, Runescape takes place in an imaginary world composed of several kingdoms, cities and regions. It does not require users to follow certain paths, so players can play it as they please.

Now that you already know what a virtual world is, you’ll understand why it continues to attract people of all ages. Whether you want to play virtual world games or to become a part of an online community, three-dimensional virtual realms will make your imagination go wild.

If you own an iPhone, there is a mobile fax application called RingCentral which allows you to send and receive faxes. This powerful app allows you to scroll through all received faxes and arrange to view them by sender, date, or time. For instance, you can manage multiple voice mailboxes, transfer calls, as well as deploying an auto-receptionist.

Choosing Mobile Apps That Support a Variety of Phone Carriers

While RingCentral is a great app, it services just one segment of the smart phone population. There are also apps that service a variety of mobile services and platforms. For instance, AT&T MEAP is compatible with the Blackberry, iPhone, Palm OS, and Windows Mobile. This solution crosses all clients and allows for an increase in responsiveness and profitability with its seamless integration.

Unlike the Metrofax Android app, AT&T MEAP is not free, though free consultation and trial periods are available. While RingCentral and AT&T MEAP are great for businesses looking to use the app for a multitude of purposes, the Metrofax Android app remains the most efficient way to send and receive faxed documents for free.

The Increasing Mobility Of The Internet

The young people of today would have a very hard time imagining the world without the internet. They would hardly know what a dial-up modem is, or the fact that at one time internet connection speed was so slow that it could take 24 hours to download just one file.

The rate of growth of the internet is amazing. Not only has there been an incredible increase in speed over the years, but now there has been an increase in ways it is used as well as the amount of information that can be transferred at once. There was a time that the idea of playing a video online would have seemed impossible, but now it is very common place.

The internet has gone from keeping people tied to their desktops at home, to being more mobile with the creation of the laptop, to even more condensed and mobile through cell phones. Many people now enjoy iPad’s because of the bigger viewing screens.

In the past, it would have been hard to imagine that you could touch the screen and be able to manipulate a game, or move files, select photos and more. Technology is just amazing. The question now is what is the next advancement going to be. Are we going to be able to have a screen open up in front of our eyes, right there is the air? Or maybe it will be the transfer of three-dimensional objects, or maybe even the scents of things.

Whatever it is, you can expect that it will continue to be mobile, fast, and easy to use.

How to Turn Off a Windows PC Firewall

Computers that are connected to the Internet are susceptible to a number of attacks from viruses, malware and hackers. To prevent these attacks from harming a computer many computer users install a program known as a firewall. A firewall can prevent unauthorized users or programs from gaining access to your computer.

The problem with firewalls is that sometimes they can block certain users and programs that you want on your computer. If this happens it requires you to uninstall your firewall so these programs and individuals can gain access to the computer. Here’s a look at how to turn your firewall off on a Windows PC.

Step 1: Select the Start icon from the task bar at the bottom of the screen.

Step 2: From the task bar select Control Panel. Control Panel is located on the right side of the menu.

Step 3: Depending on what version of Windows you are using you will need to select the Windows Firewall option. In Windows XP the firewall option is listed separately and able to be clicked, while Windows Vista/7 will have it under the Networking and Internet section.

Step 4: From the Windows Firewall menu select change settings. Some versions of Windows will ask you if you prompted this action just select yes.

Step 5: Turn off the firewall. To turn off the firewall select the option that says turn off firewall. There will be a small X just select that and then close it out.

Following these steps will turn off the firewall on a Windows PC. Just remember to turn it back on.

The Proof of Success: Microsoft

Statistics favor simplicity. Truth prefers to indulge convenience. This is the philosophy of all virtual marketing — with products meant to appeal to the masses, boasting easy functions and easier values. Such values are what propel purchasing (with the common users seeking operating systems that don’t confuse). And the creators of Windows have tailored their products to success, with sales generated and profits found.

Those profits are proven in the monthly dominance of Microsoft.
Since 2003 Windows products have managed to gain the trust — and dollars — of the average user. The vast potential of their operating systems (from the familiar Vista to the streamlined Windows 7) has defined the charts. Over 84 percent of all computer purchases were attributed to this brand in 2011 alone; and those numbers have remained steady for years.
Such a feat isn’t to be dismissed. It’s instead to be celebrated. Rivals (like Macintosh, Linux and smartphone applications) are constantly appearing, offering new products and trying to entice consumers away. Their collective sales, however, are meager when compared to Windows — with only 16 percent shared between them in 2011. These systems can’t be denied as impressive but are too often deemed complicated by users: making them unappealing and sought by only a few.
Microsoft, however, has managed to maintain its clients — offering operations that work and functions that can be fully utilized. This ensures that its products create the highest numbers (and the most rewards) each month. And it’s easy to assume that this trend will continue for the years to come.

Store Files with “The Cloud”

“The Cloud” is a common discussion right now in technology news. It is a system that allows people to store files on the Internet so that they can be accessed on any device. This means people can be more mobile with their work and have less risk of losing files. It is going to be the basis for all new computer operating systems and it is going to change the way that most people store files.

Right now it is not uncommon for people to have over 100 gigabytes of memory on their computers in order to store files. This will be unnecessary in the near future. All you will have to do is find a cloud-based storage provider and use them to store your files in a secure location on the Internet. There won’t be any reason to store file exclusively on your computer.

Cloud-based services are password protected, so they are secure as long as you do not divulge your information to anyone. There will always be computer hackers, but there will always be computer thieves, too. So, the risk of having your files and information stolen from the cloud is no greater than it already is without the service.

There are lots of companies that already offer cloud-based services. Mozy allows you to store 1 gigabyte of files for free, and Google has a productivity suite based on the cloud that can be used through a Google account. In general, the cost to store files through these services is minimal, and it increases depending on your needs. You can start using the cloud today to enjoy the benefits of virtual storage.
