The young people of today would have a very hard time imagining the world without the internet. They would hardly know what a dial-up modem is, or the fact that at one time internet connection speed was so slow that it could take 24 hours to download just one file.

The rate of growth of the internet is amazing. Not only has there been an incredible increase in speed over the years, but now there has been an increase in ways it is used as well as the amount of information that can be transferred at once. There was a time that the idea of playing a video online would have seemed impossible, but now it is very common place.

The internet has gone from keeping people tied to their desktops at home, to being more mobile with the creation of the laptop, to even more condensed and mobile through cell phones. Many people now enjoy iPad’s because of the bigger viewing screens.

In the past, it would have been hard to imagine that you could touch the screen and be able to manipulate a game, or move files, select photos and more. Technology is just amazing. The question now is what is the next advancement going to be. Are we going to be able to have a screen open up in front of our eyes, right there is the air? Or maybe it will be the transfer of three-dimensional objects, or maybe even the scents of things.

How to Turn Off a Windows PC Firewall

Computers that are connected to the Internet are susceptible to a number of attacks from viruses, malware and hackers. To prevent these attacks from harming a computer many computer users install a program known as a firewall. A firewall can prevent unauthorized users or programs from gaining access to your computer.

The problem with firewalls is that sometimes they can block certain users and programs that you want on your computer. If this happens it requires you to uninstall your firewall so these programs and individuals can gain access to the computer. Here’s a look at how to turn your firewall off on a Windows PC.

Step 1: Select the Start icon from the task bar at the bottom of the screen.

 

Step 2: From the task bar select Control Panel. Control Panel is located on the right side of the menu.

Step 3: Depending on what version of Windows you are using you will need to select the Windows Firewall option. In Windows XP the firewall option is listed separately and able to be clicked, while Windows Vista/7 will have it under the Networking and Internet section.

Step 4: From the Windows Firewall menu select change settings. Some versions of Windows will ask you if you prompted this action just select yes.

Step 5: Turn off the firewall. To turn off the firewall select the option that says turn off firewall. There will be a small X just select that and then close it out.

Following these steps will turn off the firewall on a Windows PC. Just remember to turn it back on.

Rivals (like Macintosh, Linux and smartphone applications) are constantly appearing, offering new products and trying to entice consumers away. Their collective sales, however, are meager when compared to Windows — with only 16 percent shared between them in 2011. These systems can’t be denied as impressive but are too often deemed complicated by users: making them unappealing and sought by only a few.
Microsoft, however, has managed to maintain its clients — offering operations that work and functions that can be fully utilized. This ensures that its products create the highest numbers (and the most rewards) each month. And it’s easy to assume that this trend will continue for the years to come.
